Abstract

A marginal productivity approach is developed for valuing industrial use of water and applied using data from Chinese industrial firms, where water, as well as capital, labour and raw materials, are treated as inputs to a production function. Models on price elasticity of water demand associated with the marginal productivity approach are also developed and estimated for different Chinese industrial sectors.
