Certificate‐of‐need (CON) laws have been extensively studied in the existing literature, but important questions remain on their broad effects in specific settings and select outcomes. In this symposium, modern causal inference techniques are used to measure the effects of CON laws on rural patients, in the substance use disorder treatment setting, and on the labor market more broadly. The results of the papers are summarized, and areas for further research are shared.
