Abstract

Does the UK higher education system and our graduate labor market operate to provide UK industry and commerce with the highly qualified manpower it needs? This paper focuses on time series and cross section evidence relating to graduate destinations, unemployment, and earnings in order to describe the present market for qualified manpower. Patterns of subject specialization, occupational choice and the early work histories and career mobility of graduates are outlined to further assess the nature of the supply of qualified manpower in the United Kingdom.
